Software Project Rescue Services

Software project rescue services are needed when your current or previous vendor doesn't meet your expectations and delivers poor results, or can't accomplish what you need and is in fact unable to deliver the project at all. The situation is urgent when customers are leaving your product because constant issues and spontaneous downtime prevent them from completing their workflows and you're facing thousands of dollars in losses. The failed software project has to be rescued immediately, especially if this is for an early-stage startup in healthcare, finance or other important industries, and has to be stabilized by a team that takes over development, resolves critical issues in the source code, and, in the end, creates and maintains a reliable, functional application.

Having extensive experience in software project rescue, we have grouped the reasons our clients from the USA, UK, and Europe come to our agency for project and application rescue services.

Deadlines are Missed: Your Project Has Stalled

Our clients feel the pressure to finish everything quickly because it had to be finished long ago.

The previous development team may have spent months and produced no viable product or new version of the application.

Constant delays by their old dev partner cause the software projects to stall and go grossly over time and budget.

Unstable Code: Your Product Is Bug-Ridden

Very often, our clients' software products become unstable because the unreliable developers our clients hired before took shortcuts in their work day after day.

Previous vendors may have hardcoded critical components, so it looks like the frontend may work, but the backend is actually faulty. It gets to the point where mistakes they made in the first place have resulted in a hodgepodge of code they can't fix later or even track and find bugs in.

Lately, there has been an increased number of clients who come with AI-generated prototypes held together with duct tape and prayers. They are riddled with so many technical issues that even the frontend doesn't work as required and the app crashes on every second click, requiring emergency software project rescue.

A separate category of projects we take on for rescue could be called "big mechanical beasts" with dragged down performance: software apps with years of legacy code that nobody else wants to maintain.

Clients may even try to rebuild what they had with another vendor but again find the progress frustrating and too slow for different reasons, including lack of transparency and smooth communication.

Lost Faith in the Current Agency: The Company Didn't Meet Expectations

It quite often happens that our clients' prior team was working at a satisfactory level, but at some point its service quality became poor.

The speed and quality requirements started being ignored, the price increased, and other examples of unethical business practices started to appear, pushing our clients away.

Tired of blame games ("it's a PM mistake," "no, it's a dev mistake," "no, it's a new dev mistake") and finding every aspect of the project like pulling teeth, our clients decide to look for new true technology partners.

However, they may still make three or more attempts before succeeding because not every new vendor is able to deliver what they promised.

Multiple Attempts: None of the Vendors Delivered on Their Promises

It's true that finding a reliable development company can be difficult for many external reasons beyond your control.

That's why hiring a software project rescue company can be a logical next step in product growth.

For example, if the first version of a product consists of several parts developed by different freelancers with little technical coordination between them, the final result can be poor.

The same product could be developed professionally using different technical approaches depending on the product perspective.

The problem starts when one non-senior technical specialist recommends one tech stack, while another recommends a completely different one. The client becomes confused, if not outright misdirected, because they may not realize that by the time they receive these recommendations, their software products have already outgrown both proposed options.

Before finding the right software project rescue company (with consulting experts on staff, not only programmers), clients may go through several development companies and replace multiple developers.

Unexpected Developer Departures: The Team of Developers Fell Apart

The urgent need for developers creates a hard time for our clients, not just because the former technology resources were performing badly and therefore weren't meeting expectations. Conversely, the previous developers may have had decent skills, and the issues may not have been with the quality at all but rather with organizational issues.

The key lead and senior developer or the original CTO from their external design/development agency may depart for reasons such as burnout or retirement. Sometimes it causes a domino effect in such companies when other developers leave afterward too, so the development team falls apart and development itself stops.

The situation becomes more complicated if our clients lose development resources when the software is already halfway done, so they need not just anybody but, first of all, the right technical folks who can understand their architecture and technical direction and take it on.

Our clients' deadlines, meanwhile, don't go anywhere, and new ones suddenly appear in the form of transition timelines. Often, contracts give one month's notice before a developer may leave, so clients have only this much time, or even less, to find someone who can jump in for him.

It's not unusual for some small niche outsourcing companies to be acquired by larger vendors just months after kicking off the project. If our clients' projects are not big enough at this stage, not enough resources may be allocated to the project in the new organizational reality because new owners may have their own business priorities. Such a situation also makes our clients feel like nobody pays attention to their project and forces them to look for alternatives.

Outsourced Overseas: An Ineffective or Poorly Performing Offshore Vendor

Our clients certainly ensured that the development team they chose, working from another country, could speak English and communicate well.

Unfortunately, they soon realized that the web application development work of their partners abroad was extremely poor, even though their coding was fast.

Some of our clients have had terrible experiences with offshore developers, only later understanding that their contractors were not just unorganized and not flexible and adaptable enough to change, but simply could not resolve the problem because they did not have enough technical competence, and their lies just delayed the project.

Additionally, our clients complain that their Indian vendors were deliberately not upfront about things that went wrong for a long time, which in the end caused problems for our clients.

Evaluating Stage

Clients are different, and their situations are too. But our solution never comes down to saying that our clients have to start from scratch. Very often some of the core logic is perfectly usable, and there is no reason for our clients to waste their developer resources rebuilding something that already works.

In some cases, depending on the project complexity, we can start the evaluation stage even prior to engagement by going through the client's project management and business messaging applications to investigate key aspects of the problem. Then we create an extremely detailed spreadsheet listing what needs to be addressed first.

This way, we win our clients' trust not just by volunteering our time but also by impressing them with the initial assessment's scope. Regardless of having offers from other development companies too, they still choose us because nobody else comes close in the detail and attention we put into the assessment report itself.

In other cases, we may be brought in for a time-limited trial period when our developer does the code evaluation and at the same time works on some small-scale projects.

After this initial evaluation, we then advise our client on how to proceed.

Quick Initial Corrections and Fixing Stage

If the product is already live, as a rule it is a large project involving software products like SaaS and e-commerce systems with complex infrastructure and high SLAs to keep.

They need a results-driven partner that can put together a team within 24 hours, even on a holiday or weekend, to save the project by making the first corrections within a short time frame.

After learning the system quickly, we start with critical issues that need to be fixed, and very often immediately after that clients also ask us to take on the development of new features.

Deep Technical Audit Stage

What we learned about the system for the first corrections is enough to keep it running, but not enough to decide what to do with it, so we start the audit by mapping the entire system.

After the previous team, there is usually no documentation left, and we need to see what the application actually consists of and where its critical parts are. Then we review the existing architecture and the application's entire code, as well as investigate user security.

Depending on the platform, we may also review core functionality, custom themes, and plugins for deviations from coding standards and deprecated functions.

In the case of AI-generated prototypes, the problems are typically the same from project to project: almost no tests, security vulnerabilities, a lot of duplication, and hardcoded shortcuts that make the app look like it works.

Then we prepare a detailed report on what is wrong, what is needed, and what could be improved, with every issue we have found ranked by priority, so that our clients fully understand the next steps needed to bring their application up to their standards.

In the case of a migration from an outdated framework, the report may become a detailed migration roadmap with a component-by-component analysis.

We Deliver the Results Our Clients Need Under Pressure

Our clients have a very tight time window, especially if they're fundraising and actively demoing the project to investors.

We try not just to deliver on schedule but also to be ready to re-prioritize or turn the dial to 11 and spend extra time if the scope shifts, while critical dates stay intact.

Our clients always have a detailed progress-tracking roadmap, ensuring they always have control over whether they can actually launch the product on time without incomplete work or technical debt holding them back.

If you have crashing and burning projects, we can rescue them at the last minute, completely turn them around, and get them across the finish line. Our software project rescue services company gets our clients to the finish line and keeps them happy, getting them out of a bind.
